1. Installation and setup:
1.1 What are the minimum requirements to use the Ringboxx? The minimum requirements for the PC are: Pentium processor with 256mb RAM, 2x CD-ROM Drive, and at least 275mb free hard drive space.
Operating system requirements: PC running Windows 2000 SP4, Windows XP SP2 or Windows Vista. Broadband internet connection recommended.
1.2 Can I use the Ringboxx on my phone at work?
Possibly, but generally not; the Ringboxx is designed to work with a traditional analog phone line like that found in most homes. The majority of new businesses use digital phones which do not provide the telephone line characteristics that the Ringboxx needs to operate. However, if your business has a traditional analog telephone line, such as that used by fax machines, then the Ringboxx will likely work with this line.
1.3 What is included in the box?
Ringboxx player, CD-ROM, USB cable, power supply, telephone line cord, metal stand and Quick Start Guide.
1.4 Will this work on a Apple/Macintosh computer?
Not at this time. The current Ringboxx application software was written for the PC platform and does not run on an Apple/Macintosh platform. We are considering a version for the Apple/Macintosh platform which may be available with release of later versions of the software.
1.5 How do I install the Home Phone Tunes software?
- Place the Home Phone Tunes CD-ROM in your CD-ROM drive. The installation program will automatically if autorun is enabled on your computer.
- If autorun is not enabled, the installation dialog box does not appear automatically. If it does not appear, run setup.exe from the CD-ROM drive (choose Start > Run > D:\setup.exe, where D: is the first CD-ROM drive in your computer).
1.6 How do I plug the Ringboxx into my phone?
- Unplug existing RJ11 phone cable from your telephone.
- Plug the same RJ11 phone cable into either jack on the back of the Ringboxx.
- Take supplied RJ11 phone cable and plug it into the other available jack.
- Plug the other end of the supplied RJ11 phone cable into your telephone.
- Plug the power supply cable into the Ringboxx and into a standard outlet. The blue LED light should come on to indicate that the device is receiving power.
- Take the supplied USB cable and plug the smaller end into the side of the Ringboxx
- Take the other end of the USB cable and plug it into an open USB port on your computer
In order for your Ringboxx to work it needs to be activated by plugging the Ringboxx into the computer while the Home Phone Tunes software is running and your internet connection is on. Our internet database will activate the Ringboxx so you can use it for downloading ringtones.
1.9 Each time I connect the Ringboxx to my computer a new screen pops open showing a new connected device or disk drive. What is this and what should I do about it?
This is Microsoft’s way of letting you know that a new device has been connected; simply close that window each time it pops up.
1.10 Why is there a delay from the time I connect my Ringboxx to my computer to when it shows as "Connected"?
When you connect the Ringboxx to your PC there is first a delay as the PC operating system queries the Ringboxx, establishes the USB connection and then subsequently mounts the Ringboxx as an attached mass storage device. There is a second delay as the HPT PC application software periodically checks the PC operating system for the presence of a Ringboxx and then updates it’s connection information. The PC application checks about once every four seconds which can appear as additional delay from the time that the Ringboxx is first connected.
1.11 What is "Working Offline"?
"Working Offline" is when your computer is not connected to the internet but yet Home Phone Tunes software is running (open). You cannot purchase from the Ringtone store but you can assign calling numbers, names, preferences, etc.
1.12 How many Ringboxxs can I connect to my computer at the same time?
You can only connect one Ringboxx at a time on a single computer.
1.13 My telephone provider sends the caller ID with an additional leading "1" digit for a total of 11-digits. How can I get this to match the 10-digit phone number in my Ringtone Playlist?
Users may find that the caller ID data that is sent with each phone call received will have an additional leading digit of "1" before the standard 10-digit telephone number resulting in a caller ID that is 11-digits in length. When this occurs, the Ringboxx will try to match the first 10-digits of this caller ID with each 10-digit phone number in your playlist in order to determine the ringtone that is played. Therefore, if you suspect, or find, that you are receiving 11-digit caller ID values from your telephone carrier, you should enter phone numbers into your playlist beginning with "1" and then follow with the first 9 digits of the phone number you wish to enter, leaving off the last digit of the phone number. Doing this will allow the caller ID sent to correctly match the telephone number in your playlist. Telephone serviced from Vonage has been observed to send 11-digit caller ID data as described above.

Yes, you can preview the songs, simply double click on the song in the Ringtone store or click the "play" button the right side.
2.4 How can I purchase and download a ringtone to more than one Ringboxx at a time?
Assuming you have two Ringboxxs that have already been activated on the same computer (see above for activation instructions). Simply buy a ringtone from the store and a new window should pop up after you purchase. The new window should display your activated Ringboxx serial numbers and you can choose which (or both) Ringboxx the ringtone goes to.
2.5 What happens if I buy a ringtone that I already have in my library?
The HPT PC application software will download the ringtone and then check it against the contents of the Ringtone Library. If this ringtone already exists in the Ringtone Library then the HPT software will place another copy of the ringtone in the Ringtone Library, but your account will not be charged any credits for the download.
3. My Ringboxx, using the Ringboxx Playlist and Library:
3.1 How do I get more ringtones in my Ringboxx Library? You can add more ringtones in your library by purchasing more ringtones from the Ringtone store (see above for buying instructions)
3.2 How do I add ringtones to my Ringboxx Playlist?
You can add more ringtones by dragging the purchased ringtones from the Ringboxx Library to the Ringboxx Playlist with your mouse. Another option is you can click the "ADD" button on the right side of the library.
3.3 Is there a limit to the number of ringtones I can put in my Ringboxx Playlist or Ringboxx Library?
The number of ringtones that can be placed in the Ringboxx Playlist is limited by the space available in the internal memory of the associated Ringboxx device. The internal memory will generally hold about eight to twelve ringtones. Since ringtones may be used by more than one entry in the playlist you may have many more entries in your playlist than you have ringtones. Additionally, if you insert an SD memory card into the side of the Ringboxx you will expand the available memory which can allow for up to 250 different ringtones to be used in your Ringboxx Playlist. The Ringboxx Library has unlimited space; you can purchase as many ringtones as you want. The maxium size SD card that can be used is 1GB.
3.4 How do I assign caller names and phone numbers?
Simply add ringtones to your Ringboxx Playlist (see above for instructions). Click on the phone number and enter a valid 10 digit phone number. Feel free to enter any name for the caller by clicking on the name so it is highlighted.
3.5 What is the default ringtone, and can I change it?
The Ringboxx will play the default ringtone whenever it receives an incoming call where the caller ID does not match any of the telephone numbers that you have entered into your Ringboxx Playlist.
You can change the default ringtone by clicking the check box under the default column in the Ringboxx Playlist. You pick any ringtone to be your default, just as long as you purchased the ringtone and it is located in your Ringboxx Playlist.
3.6 Why am I unable to remove the default ringtone?
The default ringtone will play for any incoming call with calling number that doesn’t match any of the phone numbers in your Ringboxx Playlist. The Ringboxx must have a ringtone designated as the default so that it has a ringtone to play for these types of incoming calls. Therefore, one of the ringtones in the Ringboxx Playlist must be marked as the default ringtone at all times. However, you may choose to silence the default ringtone by adding the "Silent Ringtone" from the Ringtone Library to your Ringboxx Playlist and then selecting this to be the default ringtone.
3.7 Why am I only allowed to enter a phone number once into my Ringboxx Playlist?
The Ringboxx can only play one ringtone for the assigned phone number.
3.8 How do I sync my Ringboxx?
Plug your Ringboxx into the computer (see installation instructions). Go to My Ringboxx, an orange button should appear that says "sync with Ringboxx". Simply click the button and wait for the Ringboxx to finish. If you get any errors please contact Home Phone Tunes support team.
3.9 The sync button disappeared, how do I get it back?
The sync button disappeared because either the Ringboxx was disconnected or you have too many ringtones located in your Ringboxx Playlist. Simply remove the ringtones by clicking the "Remove" button on the right side. This will put the desired ringtones back into the library for later use. Another option is you can put a memory card into the Ringboxx to allow for more memory storage.
If your Ringboxx is disconnected, plug the Ringboxx back into the USB port (see installation instructions). If this still doesn’t work please contact Home Phone Tunes support team.
3.10 How can I delete a ringtone from my Ringtone Library?
Ringtones stored in your Ringtone Library are not intended to be deleted as you can simply choose not to use the ringtone by not including it in your Ringboxx Playlist. However, if you really want to delete a ringtone in your Ringtone Library this can be done by selecting that ringtone with your mouse cursor and then pressing the "Delete" key on your keyboard. You will be prompted to confirm that you want to make the deletion and once deleted the ringtone can only be restored by purchasing it again from the Ringtone Store.
3.11 Are there requirements for the SD card that can be used with the Ringboxx?
Yes. The SD card used must be 1GB in size or less. SD cards purchased from Home Phone Tunes have been tested with the Ringboxx and found to be compatible. Other brands or models of SD card may not be compatible and should be tested by the user before using with the Ringboxx. The SD card must also be formatted using the FAT format, not FAT32 or NTFS, etc. Additionally, the names of all files and folders stored on the SD card should be in the "8.3" format. Files or file folders with "long" names can cause problems for the Ringboxx and should be removed from the SD card. It is actually best to delete all files and folders from the SD card prior to using it with the Ringboxx for the first time. Doing this will eliminate potential conflicts with the Ringboxx which writes files to the SD card when you choose to synchronize your playlist from the PC application.
4. Ringboxx List:
4.1 I purchased a Ringboxx but it’s not listed in the "Ringboxx List" on the left hand side of the application screen? If you haven’t activated your Ringboxx see the installation and setup instructions. If you have already activated your Ringboxx on this same computer then the Ringboxx should be listed in the Ringboxx List. If this is not the case then contact Home Phone Tunes support team.
4.2 Can I use and manage the ringtones for multiple Ringboxxs with my computer?
Yes, you can purchase multiple Ringboxxs and manage the ringtones for these with your computer. Once you activate them each Ringboxx will be located under the Ringboxx List. In your home, each Ringboxx can be located at a different phone jack allowing different ringtones to play in different rooms of your home.
4.3 Does my Ringboxx need to be connected to my computer at all times?
No, it does not need to be connected with the Home Phone Tunes software unless you want to sync the Ringboxx. For example, if you change your Ringtones, Preferences, Call Indicators, Numbers, Names, etc. While the Ringboxx is disconnected you are still able to buy and download ringtones from the Ringtone Store.
5. Preferences:
5.1 What is a call indicator?A call indicator is the initial sound (or silence if preferred) before the ringtone plays. The call indicator is played by the Ringboxx at the start of the first ring signal on the telephone line and before the calling line ID is received.
5.2 Can I buy more call indicators?
Yes, you can buy more call indicators (1 credit) under the preferences section by clicking the orange "BUY CALL INDICATORS" button on the right side.
5.3 Can I make the call indicator silent?
Yes, you can make the call indicator silent by checking the "No Call Indicator" in the Call Indicator list on the Preferences screen. With this selected, your Ringboxx will no longer play the Call Indicator at the beginning of each call received. Note there will then be 2-3 seconds of silence before the ringtone plays as the calling line ID is not received until after the first ring.
5.4 How can I know if telemarketers and sales people are calling?
On the Preferences screen, in the Toll Calls section, check the "Activate" box, and select a ringtone from the drop down menu. The selected ringtone will automatically be played for all incoming calls which begin with the prefixes: 800, 888, 877, 866, 855.
5.5 Can I block the toll free 800 numbers?
Yes you can, under the Toll Calls, check the "Activate" box, and select the "Silent Ringtone" from the drop down menu. This will then be played for all 800, 888, 877, 866, 855 numbers.
